The Victorian Government has selected the Port of Hastings as the preferred site for the new Victorian Renewable Energy Terminal, a key component in the state’s efforts to expand its renewable energy capacity.

The terminal will focus on supporting offshore wind energy projects by providing specialized infrastructure for the assembly, storage, and shipment of wind turbines and foundation components.

Located at the Old Tyabb Reclamation Area (OTRA) within the Port of Hastings precinct, the terminal aims to become a critical hub for the offshore wind industry.

Its development is expected to play a significant role in advancing Victoria’s transition to cleaner energy, supporting the growing demand for offshore wind energy infrastructure, and helping the state meet its ambitious renewable energy targets.

To ensure the project’s environmental impact is thoroughly assessed, the Victorian Minister for Planning has mandated an Environment Effects Statement (EES) under the Environment Effects Act 1978.

The Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) has prepared draft scoping requirements outlining the key areas to be investigated in the EES. These include potential impacts on local ecosystems, marine environments, biodiversity, and the surrounding community.

The scoping document also highlights the need to assess mitigation strategies to address any negative effects identified during the review process.

In comparison, telecommunications giant Telstra currently offers NBN plans starting at $130 for the first six months and escalating to $150 thereafter, with advertised typical download speeds around 700 Mbps.

This stark contrast in pricing and performance has led many to question why Telstra continues to dominate the NBN market with over 40% market share despite the clear advantages of Superloop’s offering.

Superloop’s pricing strategy not only provides customers with exceptional value but also reflects the company’s commitment to delivering high-quality internet access.

With an increasing number of Australians working from home and streaming high-definition content, the demand for fast and reliable internet has never been greater. Superloop’s nearly gigabit speeds cater to this need, enabling seamless online experiences.

Industry analysts are noting that while Telstra’s established brand and extensive infrastructure contribute to its market position, the competitive pricing and superior performance of Superloop’s plans may encourage consumers to reconsider their options.

As awareness of Superloop’s offerings grows, more customers may be tempted to switch, seeking both speed and savings.

One satisfied Superloop customer recently shared their impressive experience with the ISP’s seamless connection process. After being notified that their address was enabled for Fibre to the Premises (FTTP), they decided to switch to Superloop for its near gigabit speeds.

Australians find themselves grappling with an infuriating reality: the exorbitant prices charged by Telstra for its National Broadband Network (NBN) services.

As the market competition heats up, consumers are left questioning why they must pay a premium for speeds that lag significantly behind those offered by other providers.

According to internet comparison websites, Telstra justifies its high prices because they have greater control over service delivery. This assertion, however, does little to assuage the frustrations of end users who experience no discernible improvement in quality, speed, or reliability.

On the contrary, many Telstra NBN customers report frequent outages and inconsistent speeds, making the premium pricing all the more galling.

The situation has led to widespread discontent among Telstra’s customer base. Online forums and social media platforms are rife with complaints about the high costs and underwhelming performance.

Customers are particularly incensed by the stark contrast between Telstra’s offerings and those of its competitors, who manage to deliver superior speeds at lower prices.

“It’s a slap in the face,” says disgruntled Telstra customer Ms Dwyer. “Why should I pay $100 a month for 50Mbps when I can get 1000Mbps for the same price from another provider? Telstra needs to start offering better value for money.”

A Melbourne duo has found themselves in hot water after allegedly orchestrating a deceitful robbery during the sale of a high-end designer handbag through Facebook Marketplace.

The pair, identified as a 21-year-old woman from Gladstone Park and a 28-year-old man from Broadmeadows, stand accused of staging the robbery in May and subsequently profiting from the sale of the stolen item.

According to police reports, the incident unfolded when the woman arranged to meet the seller via the popular online marketplace to inspect the luxury handbag, valued at thousands of dollars.

However, what was supposed to be a routine transaction took a dramatic turn when, during the meeting, a man purportedly approached the buyer, assaulted her, and absconded with the handbag.

Upon further investigation, authorities allege that the robbery was a premeditated scheme concocted by the accused pair. It is asserted that they were acquainted with each other and had conspired to stage the theft, with the intention of later selling the stolen handbag and dividing the proceeds between them.

In light of these accusations, the Gladstone Park woman has been charged with perjury, theft, and handling stolen goods, while her accomplice, the Broadmeadows man, faces charges of theft, handling stolen goods, and obtaining property by deception.

Despite the gravity of the charges, both individuals have been granted bail and are scheduled to appear in the Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court on October 9 to answer to the allegations.

Equinix, Inc announced the deployment of a 1MW rooftop solar system at its ME1 International Business Exchange (IBX) data centre in Melbourne. The initiative is part of its efforts to reduce energy costs and combat climate change by incorporating renewable energy sources into its operations.

The new deployment marks one of the largest rooftop solar projects in Australia’s data center history with installations of rooftop solar systems at eight of its data centers across Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, and Sydney.

Total 1.8MW of Clean Energy To Local Power Grids

Collectively, the installations provide approximately 1.8MW of clean energy to local power grids, furthering Equinix’s commitment to sustainable practices in the regions where it operates.

To assist in the funding of this latest rooftop solar deployment in Melbourne, Equinix claimed Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates (VEECs), which is part of the Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) programme established by the Victorian government to help reduce power bills and greenhouse gas emissions.

According to Minister for Climate Action, for Energy and Resources the Hon. Lily D’Ambrosio Data centres are energy intensive, but through the VEU program Equinix has been able to install a large-scale solar system that reduces their operating costs and helps to lower their emissions

“Since 2009, the VEU has helped more than 2 million households and 150,000 businesses lower their energy bills and we look forward to saving them even more when we bring more options into the program soon.” D’Ambrosio said.

The 1MW rooftop solar system is Equinix’s largest onsite rooftop solar PV system globally, and one of the largest at any data centre in Australia. It reinforces Equinix’s continued focus to add clean energy to the local grid and contribute towards decarbonation.

The Notting Hill based team, led by CEO, Wiehann de Klerk and supported by Monash University, has spent  more than seven years developing the nanomaterial technology that is used in the enyGcap ultracapacitator.

“Fundamentally, enyGcap provides increased energy storage capacity within the same package size,  known as enhanced energy density, enabling the realisation of compact, fast energy storage,” Mr de Klerk  said.

All of this is made possible through the use of graphene – a supermaterial recognised to be one of the strongest, lightest, and most electrically conductive materials ever discovered.

“Utilising graphene technology, enyGcap combines compactness with impressive power. With its remarkable energy density, our product holds the promise to revolutionise energy storage across a spectrum of applications, from electric vehicles and mass transit systems to data storage, wind turbine emergency pitch control systems, industrial equipment like cranes and elevators, and even space exploration – providing efficient fast energy storage for high-current, short-duration charge and discharge  cycles.”

The product is the first of its kind to utilise graphene technology for enhancing energy density and is  currently undergoing trials, with a launch expected to occur later next year.

In the meantime, the team is gearing up for the initial product offering, enyCap, scheduled for market launch in early 2024. EnyGy worked with UL Solutions to obtain third-party, science-backed certification for the enyCap product line.

This innovative product combines activated carbon electrodes with state-of-the-art electrolytes, delivering a remarkable three volts of power. This means increased energy density, efficiency, and compatibility.
