When Aussies were asked what was most important for a happy and contented home, more than half (54%) chose having access to high-speed internet over tidying up their house and nearly two-thirds (63%) would rather have high-speed internet than doing their weekly laundry.
In today’s fast-paced digital age, access to high-speed internet has become an essential requirement for most Australians. With the rise of online learning, remote work, and digital entertainment, a reliable and speedy internet connection is a necessity for many households.
This shift has led to a change in priorities for many people, with many Australians now valuing high-speed internet over maintaining a clean and tidy house.
The shift in priorities is not surprising given the increased reliance on digital technologies in all aspects of modern life. With more people working remotely, attending virtual meetings, and accessing online resources, a reliable and speedy internet connection has become an absolute necessity.
Additionally, streaming services like Netflix and Stan have become more popular, with Australians spending an average of 15.4 hours a week streaming and watching online content. This has made high-speed internet a top priority for many households.
While this shift in priorities may seem alarming to some, it is important to remember that it is a reflection of the changing times. For many Australians, access to high-speed internet is crucial to their daily lives and livelihoods.

For perspective, these user figures reveal that 2.33 million people in Australia did not use the internet at the start of 2022, meaning that 9.0 percent of the population remained offline at the beginning of the year.

Generation Z
It’s said that members of Generation Z are being careless with money, but when it comes to streaming services, they are quite frugal. Approximately 76% of them don’t pay for streaming services, while the opposite is true for baby boomers, as 17% of them pay for their own streaming services.
