IBM Australia and the Digital Transformation Agency (DTA) have agreed on a five-year, $725 million, whole-of-government agreement, which is an extension of the initial agreement established in 2018.
The agreement is intended to facilitate government organisations with more straightforward and economical access to IBM’s offerings, which comprise of hardware, software, cloud solutions, and other professional technology services.
Government organisations can ask for cost estimates for IBM goods and services through the government hardware, software, cloud, and online stores along with gaining access to IBM’s sustainability software suite, as part of a pilot program.
IBM will also collaborate with the Australian Government to enhance the digital aptitude of the Public Service by providing access to their IBM Digital Skills Program that will offer international knowledge to public sector authorities.
According to the agreement it will alsoalso enable agencies to work with IBM and explore how quantum technology could be applied by government agencies including working with IBM on data protection and encryption.
The DTA, Australian Taxation Office, Department of Defence, Department of Home Affairs and Services Australia collaborated to reach a mutual understanding and seal the agreement.
DTA CEO Chris Fechner says through the Commonwealth negotiating as one entity, the contract continues to give government agencies greater value for money and increased flexibility.
“This arrangement is the right fit for the current context and requirements for its participating agencies,” says Fechner.
All non-corporate commonwealth entities not belonging to the corporate sector must enter into an agreement with IBM when procuring IBM goods and services.
The agreement is also available to Corporate Commonwealth entities (CCEs), state-owned businesses, state and territorial governments, and colleges and universities legally established.
