In response to the growing need for protected facilities, the University of Technology Sydney will establish a Department of Defence-compliant innovation and research hub.
Minister for Science, Innovation and Technology Alister Henskens says the new facility, called the UTS Vault, would be housed at Sydney’s Tech Central innovation precinct.
The UTS Vault will allow collaboration with private sector tenants in cyber security and defence technology to “advancement research and commercialisation”.
High-ranking institutions in the area, including University of Sydney, University of Technology Sydney and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, are also keen to collaborate on research, commercialisation, and graduate programs at Tech Central.
Henskens says that it is expected to have a positive impact on the wider NSW cyber security industry, “delivering new high-skilled job opportunities and building state capability for cyber intelligence.”
UTS will be able to take advantage of infrastructure rebates in the government’s $250 Million Jobs Plus Program.
The program was established in 2020 to assist companies in expanding or establishing their presence in NSW.
According to the government, the UTS Vault creation will create 30 direct jobs and 80 indirect jobs by June 2024.
