Charles Darwin University (CDU) researchers have become some of the world’s most prominent specialists in their disciplines as a result of their enhanced reputation
According to a recent Stanford University study, 24 academics from CDU and Menzies School of Health Research were listed among the top two percent of researchers in their respective fields in 2021, a record number that exceeded the previous listing.
Last year, the University had 22 academics in the upper tier of influential researchers.
The study, which counts the citations, references, and authorships of over 100,000 past and present researchers, was published in PLOS Biology this month in collaboration with Stanford University.
The researchers who achieved the notable rankings this year were from a wide variety of fields, including:
- Ecology
- Applied Physics
- Accounting
- General and internal medicine
- Nursing
- Environmental engineering and
- Artificial Intelligence
CDU Associate Professor of Information Technology Mamoun Alazab says it was an honour to make the list for the third time in a row, in the discipline of artificial intelligence and networking and telecommunications.
“This ranking is a testament to the research capabilities and achievements we are so lucky to accomplish at CDU.”
“Research from CDU is making a difference in academia and industry, and it is wonderful to see our researchers ranked among others from prestigious universities in their fields across the world.”
“It is a great honour to be placed in such distinguished ranks as my CDU colleagues, all of whom have made important contributions to their field.”
“My main aim is to publish impactful research that is potentially useful for many scientists and industry and without the support from my peers at CDU and in the cybersecurity field, my achievement would not have been possible.” says Associate Professor Alazab
CDU Pro Vice-Chancellor Research and Innovation Professor Steve Rogers says the Stanford study reinforces the vital role of research in advancing CDU’s national and international reputation.
“CDU is known for our innovative and high-quality research across many disciplines,”
“A new record of CDU academics in the top two per cent of cited researchers is not only something to be proud of, but to aspire to increase every year.” says Professor Rogers.
