The US government has released a new malware threat assessment tool to assist organisations to know their current posture in the wake of recent ransom threats made against corporations and public institutions. The US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency have released a malware threat assessment tool known as the Ransomware Readiness Assessment. (RRA)
The Ransomware Readiness Assessment will help organisations in understanding what their current vulnerabilities are and how to counter them, in addition to what preventative measures they can take. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency (CISA) together with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the US Secret Service have been assisting organisations in securing their data from recent ransom attacks. The US authorities have stated that the collaboration of these bodies is an important step towards ensuring that cyber crimes are not on the rise and cyber criminals do not have free access to vital information that can be used to steal financial or business information.
Other cyber security tools have been released by CISA. This includes the Malcolm network traffic sniffer and the Cloud Optimised Operations Lab (COOL) security assessment environment.
The module was released as part of the 10.3.0 update to CISA’s Cyber Security Evaluation Toolkit (CSET) on Github who are a provider of Internet hosting for software development and version control.
