Macquarie Cloud Services, a subsidiary of Macquarie Telecom Group, has revealed a partnership agreement with St John Ambulance NSW to deliver robust cybersecurity solutions utilising Microsoft-powered cloud technology – Microsoft Sentinel

A charity with over 130 years of experience, St John NSW provides paramedic services, first aid services, training and assistance during natural disasters and large-scale events.

Driven by the imperative to protect sensitive patient, staff, and volunteer data from the increasing cybersecurity risks faced by the healthcare industry, the charity opted to switch to Macquarie Cloud Services.

Macquarie leveraged a cutting-edge managed detection and response solution powered by Microsoft Sentinel, enabling St John Ambulance NSW to proactively monitor their entire security perimeter and swiftly detect threats in real-time.

Microsoft Sentinel’s powerful hunting search-and-query tools, based on the MITRE framework, enables organisations to proactively hunt for security threats across it’s data sources, before an alert is triggered

Additionally, Macquarie collaborated closely with St John Ambulance NSW to deliver customised cybersecurity solutions and comprehensive cyber education, including a Threat Intelligence Platform that draws insights from over 40 data sources.

Naran McClung, Head of Azure and Consulting at Macquarie Cloud Services, underscores the criticality of safeguarding St John Ambulance NSW’s data from malicious threats, recognising the profound significance of the organisation and the imperative to protect it from the clutches of cyber criminals.

“By leveraging a solution that is fast, reliable and spans its broad tapestry of stakeholders, St John NSW is upholding its enduring reputation for keeping Australians safe,” says McClung.

St John NSW chief information officer Peter Bouhalis says investing in automated defences against attacks on the healthcare sector was imperative.

“St John tries to make life easy for volunteers using our systems, and Macquarie helped us introduce tailored conditional access policies to help them,”

“It’s difficult for small organisations to hire their own cyber security personnel. Macquarie is my source for this high-level security talent, and the team consistently brings both new skills and proven experience to the table.” he said

St John Ambulance NSW stores a repository of extensive patient data and is acutely aware of the heightened risk it faces as a potential target for cyber threats.

Furthermore, the organisation’s dedicated volunteers often need to swiftly update and exchange critical patient information in real-time during emergency responses, further underscoring the need for robust cybersecurity measures to safeguard data integrity and confidentiality.

Since its official launch in February 2020, Macquarie’s Azure practice increased it’s revenue by more than 200 per cent.
