Aussie Broadband is boosting it’s Netflix capacity by upgrading it’s network performance with terabit local cache (1Tbps) which will bring the network’s total capacity for Netflix content up by almost 140 per cent, enabling tens of thousands of extra simultaneous streams and eliminating the need for users to frequently re-download content.

The upgrades are part of Aussie’s continued network growth, which includes the recent commissioning of two 400GE links between Sydney and Melbourne.

The new 400GE links showcased Aussie’s ambitions to continually grow their network footprint while providing more redundancy and certainty for customers.

In addition, Aussie Broadband also increased it’s Google interconnection capacity to 600 gigabits per second in Sydney and Melbourne and expanded it’s capacity in Singapore for international traffic, utilising the EdgeIX and Equinix IX exchanges.

Network caching is the process of storing frequently accessed data in a location closer to the user, reducing the amount of time and resources required to access it.

By caching Netflix data such as movies and TV shows on local servers, Aussie can reduce it’s network latency and significantly improve it’s user experience.

Aussie Broadband General Manager of Networks Ben Cornish says the company is always expanding and growing its network to ensure the best possible experience for customers.

“By installing more local caches, we’re bringing content closer to Aussie users – reducing the latency between them and the content and making the experience better for our customers.”

John Reisinger, Aussie Broadbands Chief Technology Officer, said “Our engineers are always monitoring network telemetry and global trends,”

“The team is constantly reviewing these analytics to proactively identify new content that can be brought closer to the user, so we can always provide the best possible network experience,” said Reisinger

With the new local caching capapacity currently in the process of being racked and commissioned, Aussie Broadband is poised to solidify its position as a leading provider of high-quality telecommunications services in Australia.

The company’s dedication to improving it’s network infrastructure and enhancing user experience is likely to be well-received by its customers.

Currently, Aussie directly peers with multiple major content distribution networks, including but not limited to: Akamai, Amazon, Cloudfront, Activision-Blizzard, Cloudflare, Facebook, Fetch, Google, Oracle, Edgecast, Microsoft, Twitch, Netflix, and more.

The Australian broadband provider has consistently ranked highly in customer satisfaction surveys and has received multiple awards.
