Leader Computers, an IT and PC distributor revamps its operations to intergrate Dematic’s AutoStore technology within its Sydney warehouse saving hours on inventory and allowing more time to ship stocks to resellers.

Dematic’s AutoStore automated storage, goods-to-person (GTP) picking and fulfilment system was brought in to maximise Leader Computers warehouse space and decrease manual labour work.

With the pandemic increasing demand for IT infrastructure, online classes and work from home setups resellers were placing more orders and increasing pressure on Leaders warehouse operations prompting the company to upgrade its warehouse with automation and to capitalise on better space.

Dematic consulting manager David Lamb says the requirements for this automation project were: one, save labour; two, save warehouse space; and three, for Leader Computers to walk the talk of how using technology to improve business,.

“The Dematic solution features an AutoStore system with nine robots, three goods-to-person ports, and 6,662 bins,”

“Palletised products are manually delivered to an AutoStore port, where an operator receives and loads them into totes delivered by robots.” says Lamb

According to Lamb receiving tasks are completed, robots collect the totes for delivery to the high-density storage grid.

“As orders are received, robots then retrieve totes and deliver them in sequence to operators at two carousel ports.” he said.

Lidcombe, Sydney, serves as the Leader Computers warehouse, where approximately 8,500 product SKUs are stored ranging from very large server racks and monitors to very small items such as thumb drives and CPUs.

Leader managing director Theo Kristoris says leader’s purpose is to help resellers grow and be highly profitable.

“This solution allows us to ship fast and on-time to thousands of MSPs and IT resellers in Australia and we are proud to be at the cutting edge of technology and to bring this automation to our resellers.” says Kristoris

AutoStore business development manager Jason Wu. says it’s been an honour to collaborate with Dematic on a pioneering project for Leader Computers,

“We are pleased to see more supply chain businesses embracing advanced technologies to further enhance productivity and efficiencies.”

“Over the years, we have established a relationship built on trust and innovation and this project bears testament to this,” says Wu.

According to Leader Computers the implementation was completed over an eight-week period despite COVID-19 interruptions, and Dematic continues to work with the distributor on 24-hour on-call support and scheduled maintenance.
