Teledyne e2v releases the first high resolution ToF sensor (Hydra3D+) to work in all light conditions without motion artefacts and incorporates a 832 x 600 pixel resolution

Teledyne e2v, a part of Teledyne Technologies has announced the release of its Hydra3D+, a new Time-of-Flight (ToF) CMOS image sensor.

The companies e2v innovations lead developments in healthcare, life sciences, space, transportation, defense and security and industrial markets.

Utilising Teledyne e2v’s distinctive CMOS construction, the Hydra3D+ has a brand-new three-tap 10 µm pixel which offers fast transfer speeds (as soon as 10ns) and high-sensitivity in the near-infrared range with outstanding demodulation contrast.

This precise combination allows the sensor to keep functioning in real-time without any motion errors (even when there are quickly moving objects in the area) and with remarkable temporal noise when the range is short, which is vital for tasks like pick and place, logistics, factory automation, and factory safety.

An inventive on-chip multi-system administration feature permits the sensor to collaborate with several active systems simultaneously with no hindrance that may cause inaccurate measurements.

Marketing Manager for 3D imaging at Teledyne e2v, Ha Lan Do Thu said, “Today, many Time-of-Flight sensors suffer from motion artefacts and can’t instantly perform in changing operating conditions.

“With Hydra3D+, our customers can easily achieve reliable 3D measurement with the highest levels of 3D performance, uncompromised image quality in both 2D and 3D modes, and in all distance ranges and conditions even where multiple systems operate or in outdoor environments,” he said

The excellent sensitivity of Hydra3D+ enables it to effectively manage lighting power and handle a wide range of reflectivity.

Its high resolution, with powerful on-chip HDR, featuring an on-the-fly flexible configuration also enables the best trade-off between application-level parameters, such as distance range, object reflectivity, frame rate making it ideal for mid, long-range distances and/or outdoor applications such as automated guided vehicles, surveillance, ITS and building construction.

This sensor has been created with the intention of providing customers with instant and adjustable 3D detection without any reduction in 3D performance.

Additionally, it’s also able to capture spacious views in both 2D and 3D formats with a small-sized sensor, making the system highly cost-efficient.
