Apple will continue to sell the iPhone SE as an entry-level phone and, in addition to the new iPhone 13 series, will also keep the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 in its range.
The 2021 model of Apple’s flagship iPhone, the iPhone, was announced along with the iPhone 13, which is slated to go on sale next week in Australia.
The iPhone 13 is the fifteenth generation of a successful smartphone since its original launch in 2007, and has a similar appearance to the 2020 release, the iPhone 12.
There will be four iPhone 13 models: iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max, following the same model plan as last year’s 12.
On the screen, the “notch” at the top of the screen, which contains the front cameras and sensors, has been reduced by 20 percent, which is a clear step forward for Apple, but still leaves it behind the competition with smaller points cut-outs or even cameras under the screen.
Hidden beneath this now familiar square look is a powerhouse of power and capabilities that may well exceed the needs of most normal users.
How about the performance?
Apple’s iPhone 13 will feature a brand new processor – the A15 Bionic, which is the brain and heart of the device, making it capable of using the most advanced features such as augmented reality, graphics-intensive games, high-performance work and enterprise applications, and Of course, your calls and messages too.
During Apple’s virtual launch this morning, the iPhone 13 was 50 percent faster than its rivals, although there was no clear indication of how much faster it was than previous-generation Apple phones.
“These are the best iPhones we’ve ever made,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said at the event.
How good is the camera?
Recognizing the continued importance of the camera in modern smartphones, Apple’s iPhone 13 has larger pixels in the camera sensor, allowing more light to be captured in low light conditions.
The entry-level iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini models feature camera technology such as sensor shift for stabilization that pioneered their high-end iPhone 12 Pro Max last year.
Aimed at cinema enthusiasts and film beginners, the iPhone 13 Pro also offers a Cinema Mode that allows you to apply cinematic-style focusing techniques to video recording.
This mode tracks faces and shifts focus from subject to subject when creating movies that are designed to look like cinema-style movies. These effects can be added later by selecting the depth and sharpness even after recording a video.
The iPhone Pro’s camera system has dramatic low-light performance improvements, as well as an impressive 6x optical zoom range, from ultra wide to 3x telephoto.
Using an ultra-wide angle lens, Apple’s iPhone 13 Pro series will perform well up close thanks to a new macro mode that doesn’t require an additional lens.
Apple also introduced iPhone Photo Styles, which let you customize the photo styles you like — think of them as pre-sets that take full advantage of the camera system without having to tweak the settings in detail every time you want to shoot a particular shot.
Battery and Screen updates
On the screen side, things are brighter and better – of course. On the iPhone 13 and Mini, it’s 28 percent brighter, including maximum brightness, and more energy-efficient.
For iPhone 13 Pro models, the new Super Retina XDR features 15% higher peak brightness, as well as Apple’s ProMotion technology, which was first launched on the iPad Pro. This delivers refresh rates up to 120Hz – essentially smoother scrolling and transitions that other companies like Samsung have been doing on their phones for over a year.
With an improved processor, brighter screen and better cameras, there’s always a question about battery life. Apple says the iPhone 13 will have longer battery life than last year’s iPhone 12 – more than 1.5 hours on the iPhone 13 Mini and 2.5 hours on the iPhone 13.
For the iPhone 13 Pro range, battery life is 1.5 hours on the 13 Pro and 2.5 hours on the iPhone 13 Pro Max.
Storage
The memory starts at 128 GB and goes up to 512 GB on the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini. On the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max, storage starts at 128GB and goes up to 1TB.
Packaging
Continuing their commitment to the environment, Apple has also eliminated the plastic wrap around the iPhone 13 box, which is said to save around 600 tons of plastic wrap.
Colours
The standard iPhone 13 and 13 Mini come in five colours, while the iPhone 13 Pro comes in four colours Graphite, Gold, Silver, and “Sierra Blue,” a lighter blue than the iPhone 12.
iPhone 13 will be available for pre-order starting this Friday, September 17, and will go on sale at telecommunications networks and retail stores next week, September 24.
