DoorDash, the leading last-mile logistics platform has today announced that it is expanding its global capabilities with a new engineering hub in Australia, with plans to hire 50 engineers in 2022.

The investment will firmly establish a regional centre of excellence that will further strengthen DoorDash’s long-term commitment to Australia, create local jobs and help drive growth.

Rebecca Burrows, GM DoorDash Australia said, “As DoorDash expands into new communities globally, it’s imperative that we hire local tech talent that can help us build a platform rooted in our mission to empower local economies. DoorDash enables local businesses to address consumers’ expectations of ease and immediacy and thrive in today’s convenience economy. By building the last-mile logistics infrastructure for local commerce, DoorDash is bringing communities closer, one doorstep at a time, and none of it would be possible without our world-class engineering team.”

DoorDash’s first APAC engineering hub will be led by Sharim Chua, a veteran engineering leader who has extensive experience managing large engineering teams around the world. Chua’s team will be responsible for creating impactful products and programs that support DoorDash’s continued success in Australia and beyond.

Chua said, “I am thrilled to be returning to Australia to lead a world class team of engineers. At DoorDash, we’re committed to empowering engineers to do their best work regardless of location, and the establishment of our Australian hub allows us to do just that. We’re actively hiring and expanding our local office presence in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, and engaging diverse talent with flexible working arrangements across the country. For those looking to grow their career while making a big impact on local economies, our team offers a place to learn and contribute in an inclusive environment.”

The engineering hub will be focused on scaling DoorDash’s platform and data infrastructure, building new products, ensuring reliability at scale and boosting developer productivity.

Chua added, “As a data-driven company, DoorDash aims to improve the logistics of every delivery by optimising as many customer touchpoints and interactions as possible. As we rapidly expand our services and open new business verticals such as grocery and convenience, our teams build flexible, engaging experiences, enable localisation, and support innovation. We’re incredibly excited to grow this offering right here in Australia.”

DoorDash launched in Australia in 2019 and is currently operating in all states and territories, serving over 28,000 businesses and reaching over 80 percent of the Australian population.
