Australia’s leading science innovator and entrepreneur, Professor Mark Hutchinson, became the new president of Science & Technology Australia in November.
The dynamic science leader is the first South Australian to hold the position of chairman of the nation’s leading body representing 90,000 scientists and technologists.
Professor Hutchinson is the director of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Nanoscale BioPhotonics at the University of Adelaide.
Under his leadership, the centre translated fundamental scientific discoveries on the lab bench into economic value in the boardroom, creating 30 industrial partnerships and creating 15 start-ups and spinoffs.
He succeeds Associate Professor Jeremy Brownlie, who has served with distinction as STA President for the past two years due to a pandemic, the resumption of wildfires, and a major expansion of STA’s influence and policy profile.
